Tonight during the Villa Maria hall mass, we sang a hymn called “The Summons”. I don’t think a hymn has affected me like this since I first heard “It Is Well With My Soul.” Anyway,the music to this hymn is very simple, in order to accentuate the lyrics, which are also rather straightforward. The first four stanzas are the writer’s image of what God is saying to him, and he ends with a stanza of his reply to the Lord. Just an amazing, simple song.
