about the site...

Thanks for visiting my website! I hope you enjoy your stay and are able to find your way around without any problems.

I created this site as a project, but it turned into a different few things. First off, it is a blog; simply a place where I can write some of my scattered, random thoughts, and occasionally rant a little bit, about how the man is keeping you (and me) down.

Secondly, it has become a place where I have posted some photography, so feel free to check some of that out as well. And lastly, This site will be used as part of a a few different projects for my masters degree. Feel free to email me if you have any questions, comments, concerns during your stay: (benhelms@gmail.com)

about me...

A little about me, let’s see...Well, I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, then moved to Los Angeles for college and about halfway through that I moved out to Boston. After falling in love with New England (go Pats/Sox!), I made my way back to SoCal and got two degrees from Azusa Pacific University in Los Angeles, CA (a BA in English-Writing & an MS in College Counseling and Student Development). Then I moved up to Oregon and woked as a Hall Director at the University of Portland in Oregon. From there, I moved down to Mt. Shasta, California. Man, I love this place. Mountains, sun, snow, and family. What more could a man ask for?

Besides all that, I love writing, backpacking, photography, homebrewing, music (recording, composing and listening), playing/watching sports, and exploring new lands.

Photo of the Week (August 14–20)

Okay, so this photo of the week is actually from two weeks ago. All apologies, but I couldn’t help it. I was camping with family near Crescent City, CA and took this adorable pic of my soon-to-be nephew. Gotta love this kid…   Related Posts:Photo of the Week (July 1–7)Photo of the WeekPhoto of the...

So…just some advice for novice bloggers: If you want to completely neglect your website/blog, just get engaged. Actually, not only get engaged, but try to be as involved as possible b/c your future-spouse is juggling a tough job and traveling a bit here and there. Dedication, homes. I miss you. I miss writing. But, I...

It Still Brings A Smile To My Face

I’m sitting in the passenger seat of my own car on I-5, somewhere between Dunsmuir and Castella, California. The 90+ degree heat combined with the direct sunlight bearing down on my lap would be enough to make me uncomfortable, but combined with the fact that my car heater is on full blast right in my...

Till Death Do Us Part

When a man loves a woman, he asks her for her hand in marriage and then (pending her approval) they spend the rest of their lives in Christian fidelity, each and every day loving each other more and more until they finally die happily in each other’s warm embrace some 50 years down the line....

“Hey Everyone…” Spring 2011 Edition

Just over a year ago, I posted: “Hey Everyone! Come See How(/what) Good (stuff) I Look (at)!” in which I posted some of the coolest, most interesting, funniest and just plain awesomest things I’ve found via StumbleUpon, Sean, Jason, Meaghan, Hannah or some other crazy, roundabout way. Then a few months later I posted Video...

11 for 11

Yup, first my buddy Dom did it, then my boy Sean Thompson copied him, and now I’m doing it: 11 things I want to either do, or be better at this year… __ 1.) Just give shit away 2.) Use more post-it-notes 3.) Play guitar for 1+ hour/week 4.) Maintain a clean apartment…”maintain” being the...
