about the site...

Thanks for visiting my website! I hope you enjoy your stay and are able to find your way around without any problems.

I created this site as a project, but it turned into a different few things. First off, it is a blog; simply a place where I can write some of my scattered, random thoughts, and occasionally rant a little bit, about how the man is keeping me (and you) down.

Secondly, it has become a place where I have posted some photography, so feel free to check some of that out as well. And lastly, This site will be used as part of a a few different projects for my masters degree. Feel free to email me if you have any questions, comments, concerns during your stay: (benhelms@gmail.com)

about me...

A little about me, let’s see...Well, I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, then moved to Los Angeles for college and about halfway through that I moved out to Boston. After falling in love with New England (go Pats/Sox!), I made my way back to SoCal and got two degrees from Azusa Pacific University in Los Angeles, CA (a B.A. in English-Writing & an M.S. in College Counseling and Student Development). As of now, I'm working as a Hall Director at the University of Portland in Oregon and living/working in the prestigious Villa Maria Hall.

Besides all that, I love writing, backpacking, photography, music (recording, composing and listening), playing/watching sports, and exploring new lands. View my Resume.

Last Name “Ever”, First name “Greatest Albums”…PART 1

But really, this is a list of my favorite albums of all time. Okay, so it’s a misleading title, so sue me. It’s not simply that they’re just sappy, nostalgic albums to me–in fact, they’re all musically great–but each does have special meaning to me personally. I love music, and each of these albums has...

Who’s With CoCo?

By now, I’m sure a lot of my faithful blog readers (Tyler…and sometimes Chuck. Love you guys.) have been wondering which side of the whole Jay Leno vs. NBC vs. Conan O’Brien controversy I’m on. Well, I’m here to say…It’s just not that black and white. So, in light of the end of a mere...

Vital Information For Your Everyday Life: Mythbusters Edition

I know I’m not Lori Beth Denberg or anything, but I figured with an extra day off I could take the time to make a little list of information that will most likely rock your world. It’s no secret I love me some Mythbusters. In fact, after going through each of the 138 episodes to...

R.I.P. Sir Charles (Bear With Me…)

Hey fellow blog-readers. It’s been a difficult technologically-based few days here in vacation land (see picture). I woke up a few days ago to finish my most recent blog post and well…Sir Charles (my well-endowed, yet consistently underachieving MacBookPro) was completely unresponsive. After some mouth-to-mouth and a few keyboard compressions I finally gave up. Sir...

Happy Guy Fawkes Day!

Remember, remember the fifth of November, The gunpowder treason and plot, I know of no reason Why the gunpowder treason Should ever be forgot. Catchy, right? These limerick-like words have been forever immortalized in the 2006 Wachowski brothers’ thriller, but at the same time, did anyone even know what the crap Guy Fawkes Day actually...
