about the site...

Thanks for visiting my website! I hope you enjoy your stay and are able to find your way around without any problems.

I created this site as a project, but it turned into a different few things. First off, it is a blog; simply a place where I can write some of my scattered, random thoughts, and occasionally rant a little bit, about how the man is keeping me (and you) down.

Secondly, it has become a place where I have posted some photography, so feel free to check some of that out as well. And lastly, This site will be used as part of a a few different projects for my masters degree. Feel free to email me if you have any questions, comments, concerns during your stay: (benhelms@gmail.com)

about me...

A little about me, let’s see...Well, I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, then moved to Los Angeles for college and about halfway through that I moved out to Boston. After falling in love with New England (go Pats/Sox!), I made my way back to SoCal and got two degrees from Azusa Pacific University in Los Angeles, CA (a B.A. in English-Writing & an M.S. in College Counseling and Student Development). As of now, I'm working as a Hall Director at the University of Portland in Oregon and living/working in the prestigious Villa Maria Hall.

Besides all that, I love writing, backpacking, photography, music (recording, composing and listening), playing/watching sports, and exploring new lands. View my Resume.

Writers Gotta Write

I’ve done a lotta stuff I’m not very proud of in my life. But there are a...

Millennials: How’s It Going to Be?

We’re in a recession, two wars, extremely high national debt,  personal debt of Americans is at an all time high, school violence seems to be increasing all the time, and FOX news has us scared sh@%less about our own personal security. By most accounts, America isn’t doing too peachy. However, and I’ve been thinking long...

Kill Your Television (Part 2)

TV is a virus. And just like a virus, it has spread throughout my life, slowly taking over minute by minute until it finally erupted into an overwhelming cesspool of destruction, this past weekend. Let me back things up a bit… John Logie Baird invented the television in 1926…just kidding. But really, when I was...

Who’s With CoCo?

By now, I’m sure a lot of my faithful blog readers (Tyler…and sometimes Chuck. Love you guys.) have been wondering which side of the whole Jay Leno vs. NBC vs. Conan O’Brien controversy I’m on. Well, I’m here to say…It’s just not that black and white. So, in light of the end of a mere...

It’s A Wonderful Life

Okay, so I just finished that whole “novel” thing I was working on, and after another month or two it’ll be completely finished. For now though, all apologies for a week or two without any blogology-ness (good word, Jordo). Right now, I’m in the midst of righting a few new (longer) blog articles, but until...

Niner Nation…a sonnet…

Niner Nation A sonnet in three parts. [read about iambic pentameter here or here] For all the trust and all the love I’ve shown To all who’ve loved and lost who know my tone For all the weeks and all the years of pride I’ve sat alone, depressed at home and cried To all my...
